got some more recording done

Navid and I got together today for some much needed recording time and a little bit of jamming. I’m going to try to get some rough mixes of what we did up on the site this weekend, but I should definitely have stuff up by the end of next week. We re-recorded the vocals for “tell her,” even though I said it was finished (the lead guitar needs to be re-recorded, too, I was just being lazy), we recorded “where we belong,” which is the new title for our formerly untitled song, and we reworked and re-recorded “older” so that it doesn’t sound awful anymore (in fact, it sounds quite good now). We’re taking it in a bit of a new direction, so I might leave some parts of it out of the posted version until we figure that out. Anyway, stay tuned!

video updates and new songs

We recently uploaded some more videos to our Facebook page, which you should be able to find by clicking the link at the bottom of this page, and we also added our videos to our MySpace page, which is also linked below. Our most recent upload is our performance of “shells” at the Korean Embassy a while back.

It’s been a while since we had any real news, and for that I apologize. We’ve been kinda busy, but rest assured that we are still making music. In fact, we have several new songs in the works! You’ll have more details on those when they are closer to completion, but there are about 3 new ones on the way and some old tunes we are thinking of resurrecting into songs that don’t suck. Stay tuned…

purevolume page

In our constant quest to make ourselves as omnipresent as possible, we have launched a page at purevolume: http://www.purevolume.com/technicians. That means that you can now find our stuff here, there, and at MySpace and facebook. Now no one can say that we’re hard to find online.

some upcoming things

Now that we’ve got three songs done, we’re pretty close to where we want to be in terms of getting a demo out. We’d like to get at least two more done, then we will send everything off to be mastered. At that point, we will open up a new section of our web site where you can pay a small fee to download the higher quality versions of the mp3s. I may even offer the downloads as uncompressed audio files, but I have to work out the details and figure out what most people would actually want. I’m guessing most people would just prefer higher quality mp3s instead of wav files they have to compress themselves. If you’ve got an opinion one way or another, please leave a comment so I know.

In other news, we recently acquired a new piece of gear that should help us make our shows a little more awesome. We also entered ourselves into DC101′s Last Band Standing competition. I’m not real clear on the details, but it sounds like they pick 14 bands to compete for a spot as the opening band at Chili Cook-Off this year. If we make it, we’ll be sure to let you know so you can come out and support us!

untitled new song

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Here is our latest song, as performed live at Relay for Life this past weekend. It’s not the greatest performance, and it might sound a little screwy because my computer decided to mess it up, but it should be good enough for you to get the general idea.

web site updates

I just finished some tweaks to our web site. Rather than separate blog postings for all of our upcoming shows, I have created a calendar that will list all of them. You can subscribe to the calendar if you want.
I have also added a donation button to the downloads page. Donations are purely voluntary, but please understand that recording equipment costs money and we can use all the help we can get. I am also working on a system where donations will allow you to download higher quality mp3s of the songs (or maybe even uncompressed files). While that system is not yet in place, if you make a donation now and include your user name and e-mail for this web site, I will keep your information in a list so that you won’t be denied access later on. The amount of your donation will determine how many songs you are allowed access to, similar to other online music stores (though you will not be required to download a specific song).

technicians at Relay for Life

Technicians will be performing the late shift at Relay for Life at American University on March 21 sometime between 2 am and 3 am. The event starts on March 20 at 8 pm. You have to sign up for the event to get in, which costs $10, but it’s for a great cause, so you should show up anyway! More information about Relay for Life is available here:

http://www.americanrelay.org

We will be performing as our full band and are planning on playing a couple new songs, so come show your support!

tell her [final]

I have decided that, with a rerecording of the lead guitar, “tell her” is now officially finished. It can now be accessed via the music player or you can download it to listen to on the go.
