I decided today, in the shower, that “Shells” needed work. As much as I hate going back and remixing stuff that I’ve considered done for a while now, “Shells” had become a convoluted mess. Thinking about it in the context of a live performance, there is no way we could cover all those parts between us, so I decided to strip it down to its core elements, which means it is now mostly one guitar, bass, and drums. There are still some flourishes from the acoustic and the heavy guitar, but it’s much cleaner now. I’ve also stripped back some of the extraneous vocal parts. Overall, I’d say it’s a much better version now.

Here’s a new song we’ve been working on called “tunnel vision.” Considering that very little work has been done to the recordings, it’s actually pretty good. Still need to add a bass line and maybe some drums.

I fixed a couple of things on the site today. First, I made it so the logout link above the comments form actually works now. Second, I’ve added some features to deal with spam commenting, so hopefully that will mean I don’t have to moderate comments so much. If you are not a registered fan, you will have to solve a CAPTCHA every time you post a comment. If you are registered, you don’t have to.

There will probably be a lot less recordings posted here in the coming months. We’ve realized that we’ve become too focused on having recordings and not focused enough on actually writing music, so we are shifting gears and putting all our attention on songwriting and getting gigs for now.

There was also another guitar part for the chorus, but it sounded bad, so it’s being cut until I rerecord it. There will probably be some drums in there at some point and we’ve also been experimenting with keyboards, so we’ll see what happens. I’m also not totally sold on the harmony vocals yet. Otherwise, I think it’s coming along nicely.

Anyway, this is the newer version of “older.” We changed it so there is one guitar part and one bass part (which needs fixing) rather than mucking everything up with more guitars, although we are going to add back in the soloing. We also added some vocal harmonizing, mostly to experiment with, and a new transition before the chorus (which we are working on lyrics for). There is a drum part, but it hasn’t been recorded yet.

Navid and I got together today for some much needed recording time and a little bit of jamming. I’m going to try to get some rough mixes of what we did up on the site this weekend, but I should definitely have stuff up by the end of next week. We re-recorded the vocals for “tell her,” even though I said it was finished (the lead guitar needs to be re-recorded, too, I was just being lazy), we recorded “where we belong,” which is the new title for our formerly untitled song, and we reworked and re-recorded “older” so that it doesn’t sound awful anymore (in fact, it sounds quite good now). We’re taking it in a bit of a new direction, so I might leave some parts of it out of the posted version until we figure that out. Anyway, stay tuned!

We recently uploaded some more videos to our Facebook page, which you should be able to find by clicking the link at the bottom of this page, and we also added our videos to our MySpace page, which is also linked below. Our most recent upload is our performance of “shells” at the Korean Embassy a while back.

It’s been a while since we had any real news, and for that I apologize. We’ve been kinda busy, but rest assured that we are still making music. In fact, we have several new songs in the works! You’ll have more details on those when they are closer to completion, but there are about 3 new ones on the way and some old tunes we are thinking of resurrecting into songs that don’t suck. Stay tuned…
